Fans of Tolkien have probably been wondering whether or not the famous shield of Thorin would make an appearance in the movies (the description of which comes from Appendix A in The Return of the King):
“It is said that Thorin’s shield was cloven [during the battle of Azanulbizar] and he cast it away and he hewed off with his axe a branch of an oak and held it in his left hand to ward off the strokes of his foes, or to wield as a club.”

Wow, thanks DJ. I too wondered if we’d see it and just didn’t see it anywhere. Now I do!!!
Seriously wondering if we are going to get to see the origins of the shield, or just hear a tale of the battle.
How much do I wish I was there!!!
Too true!
Cool! I was wondering where the shield was (anyone who wishes to know my view on how Thorin acquired the Oakenshield can read the fanfic “Young Thorin in Love”). The statues are all wonderful, but what I really want is the 3-D Thorin poster.
Thanks for sharing. This is fabulous. I love your blog! I’m glad that you are there and are sharing these things with us.
PS- Congrats on being featured on TORN!!!!!!!
Thanks! I’m hoping we will get a few questions answered soon about the possibility of flashbacks in the film. If this shield is so important, then we must see why
Thanks, but I’m not at Comic-con. I’m an armchair observer! Lol. But there are loads of people and groups who are sharing their photos of the event, (or listing items on eBay)! I just compile the relevant dwarf related ones.
My bad. Well written!
Great find DJ! I hope we get the backstory as it will really help to flesh out the character of Thorin imo.
