Weta: “An Unexpected Journey” Art Print

An adventurous spirit is not a quality prized among Hobbit folk, so the formerly respectable Bilbos sudden departure comes as much as a surprise to him as it is to his neighbours. He blames it on the Tookish blood in his veins. That side of the family was always the most odd and taken to unhobbity impulses of curiosity. And indeed Bilbo will come to count on every ounce of Took in him to save himself and his companions once the journey begins. The moment has been expertly captured by Gus Hunter. The external dimensions of the print are 23.2 in x 11.7 in (590 mm x297 mm) and the printed area is 20.9 in x 8.9 in (530 mm x 235 mm).

Weta: Thorin’s Map Parchment Art Print

Every great adventure needs a treasure map and in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the map was created by Thror, grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield.
It contains not only the lay of the land, but also detailed instructions. Some clear as day, some concealed. Weta’s map has been made from a scan of the original and printed in Middle-earth (New Zealand) on finest Italian Marina Conchiglia parchment paper. The famous Moon Runes that play an important part in the story have been printed in a layer of high gloss varnish on the otherwise matte surface. This is almost impossible to see in the product photographs and even to the naked eye it can be hard to spot, but in the right light they’re visible and legible. Weta: Map of the Shire Parchment Art Print

From Michel Delving in the West to Bucklebury in the East, from Greenfields in the North to Sackville in the South, Daniel Reeve’s map plots all the familiar places in the four farthings of the Shire. It shows the way to places like Tuckborough, Frogmorton, Brockenboring and Tooksbank. It helps you choose whether to cross the Brandywine on the bridge or by the Bucklebury Ferry. All annotated in helpful fashion by one Bilbo Baggins of Hobbiton in the West Farthing. Weta’s map of the Shire has been made from a scan of the original map and printed in Middle-earth (New Zealand) on finest Italian Marina Conchiglia parchment paper. Weta: Map of East Farthing Parchment

East Farthing. A gateway to adventure, the far borders of which few Hobbits dare (or desire) to cross. The Brandywine River is about as far as most hobbits have ever ventured and Wilderland beyond is the stuff of legend and the tales of weary travellers at the Shire’s many taverns and ale houses. Weta: Floor Plan of Bag End Parchment Art Print

Like any good Hobbit abode (and this is one of the best) about a third of the available floor space at Bag End is devoted to the storage, preparation and subsequent consumption of food. Much of the remaining floor plan is devoted to quiet pursuits, following the gentle topography of The Hill. There’s a parlour and a smoking room, all connected by a multitude of halls and passage ways. The owner, one Bilbo Baggins, likes guests as much as the next Hobbit and Bag End therefore only holds one guest room. Troublesome things, guests… Weta’s floor plan has been made from a scan of the original drawing and printed in Middle-earth (New Zealand) on finest Italian Marina Conchiglia parchment paper. Wilderland to a hobbit is the stuff of legend. Places like Rivendell, Mirkwood and Dale are known to very few and there is little there that would interest a Hobbit. Esgaroth, Gundabad or the Lonely Mountain are alien places mentioned only in drunken tales by travellers and vagabonds.
