Well I’m happy now! MTV Geek reveals the first three characters from Bridge Direct’s new Hobbit line, and they look good considering the company had not made anything from the LOTR films, and were known more for their Justin Bieber figures than anything else. Okay, so my expectations were pretty low…but I’m actually very picky on buying collectibles, and I plan to get a few of these.
Keep in mind there are two scale versions of the characters, 3.75″ and 6″. These pictures are of the 6″ versions, and I would assume the details are better on the larger figures.
Bilbo looks good (at least I can tell that’s Martin Freeman) with the items he’s wearing when the Company enters Mirkwood. I’m assuming these are the supplies they receive from Beorn.
Available in both 3.75″ and 6″ scale, The Bridge Direct’s Bilbo BagginsTM action figures feature authentic details and styling that capture the title character from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Bilbo figures include Sting, scabbard, travel pack and canteen accessories. SRP: $7.99 & $14.99 Ages: 4+
The Thorin figure is rocking a lot of fine textured details, and two swords, Orcrist, and his original dwarven sword (thank you Bridge Direct for not making us buy a whole separate figure for each weapon!) You can see he’s sporting the elven baldric that was found in the troll hoard, and I’m assuming he has the scabbard for Orcrist on his back. He looks reasonably like Richard Armitage, and he certainly looks the part of a fiercely determined dwarf king!
Available in both 3.75″ and 6″ scale, The Bridge Direct’s Thorin Oakenshield action figures feature authentic details and styling that capture the lead Dwarf from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Each Thorin figure includes 2 swords with sheaths, and arm guard accessories.
SRP: $7.99 & $14.99 Ages: 4+
I’m curious what these “arm guard” accessories are. Removable gauntlets? The oakenshield?
Gandalf is probably the least successful in my mind, as far as capturing the likeness of Ian McKellen. It might have something to do with the large, and overly thick poncho the figure is wearing, but I seem to recall the Toy Biz version being more authentic looking.
Available in both 3.75″ and 6″ scale, The Bridge Direct’s Gandalf the Grey action figures feature authentic details and styling that capture the wise Wizard from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Lord of the Rings films. Each Gandalf figure includes sword, scabbard, staff and hat accessories.
SRP: $7.99 & $14.99 Ages: 4+
But even with this slight gripe, the style of the characters is reasonably natural (no glaring disproportionalities) and the paint jobs look great. Can’t wait to see the rest of them!
