Peter Jackson just posted his latest v-log #8 on Facebook. There’s a brief view of stone giants from the footage seen at Comic-con, and some great shots of the set of Dale, Beorn’s house, and Rhosgobel. Plenty of spoilers in this one, and since so many shots contain interesting information, it may take me a little while to get the billion HD screencaps up. But rest assured they will be forthcoming.

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner. Yeh it looks stunning. If you look carefully there’s only 8 or so inches of the scabbard. The rest will probably added in later during post production. They usually do things like this when on green screen because the scabbard would be swinging about a lot on his hip and it would be hard to cut around it on the computer.
I did see that after a second look, and was wondering why. Figured it was something like what you said, but thought it might be more stunt related. The greenscreen makes more sense.
